State Band Festival Success

WA Brass had a very successful weekend at the State Band Festival 2017 which was held over the June long weekend. Being the only A Grade Brass Band in the state, we had no one competing in our grade but still required sufficient marks to be awarded the A Grade Open Brass Trophy. Congratulations to Ben Noonan on Principal Cornet who was awarded the Norm Snow Trophy for best soloist within a brass band.

Hymn: Jerusalem 45/50 (Parry arr Lourens)
Test Piece: Rococo Variations (Gregson) 94/100
March: Viva Birkenshaw (Rimmer) 43/50

On Monday, a number of soloists performed in the solo and party competition. Congratulations to Ben MacDonald on being awarded the Junior Brass Solo Award.  Not content with just one solo prize over the weekend, Ben Noonan took out another solo award, the A Grade Brass Solo Prize with WA Brass players taking out the top four places.

Sarah Draper (Tenor horn) 95
Justin Freeman (Euphonium) 92

Mike Willett was awarded the Allan Conroy Memorial Trophy as WA Bands-person of the year. Mike’s 30 year contribution to the band and to banding in WA was recognised in front of a packed audience and presented by Allison Conroy. Mike has been a tireless worker and great musical contributor to the band over many years and was a very worthy recipient of this award. Congratulations to Mike.
